Biodegradable mowing line. Because why would you leave plastic in nature?

By using special raw materials, we have managed to make mowing line that is completely biodegradable: it does not harm nature and will disappear within the foreseeable future. This is in contrast to standard nylon mowing line: it takes decades to break down and releases toxic substances.

EcoBlade is not oxo-degradable - this is an outdated technology where the plastic breaks down into small pieces. Oxo-degradable products are now no longer allowed to be sold in the EU. Many old 'biodegradable' mowing lines were then taken off the market.

Since approximately 10,000 kilometers of mowing line are 'used' in the Netherlands every year, we can significantly limit nature pollution with biodegradable mowing line.

Breaks down in nature

While many biodegradable products only decompose in a special industrial composter, EcoBlade also decomposes when left in nature.

We are working on having the wire certified for this. Our estimate is that the small abraded fibers will disappear within a few weeks, and entire pieces of thread within 2-3 years.

In the meantime, we can demonstrate that the basic material for the 1.6mm and 2.0mm wire has been certified for 'OK Home Compost' by TUV Austria. We can send the certificate upon request. In addition, some (environmentally friendly) additions have been made to improve the properties.

Other raw materials are used for EcoBlade PRO wire, but these are all completely biodegradable.

Performance

It's great that EcoBlade is not bad for the environment, but of course it has to work! We have managed to create a cutting line that cuts through grass and weeds as well as standard nylon cutting line, with comparable wear.

You may notice that the wire wears out faster if you touch paving such as stone and concrete with the cutting edge. Tip: try to prevent the wire from coming into contact with the paving perpendicularly.

The wire is currently available in a round version. This is a shape with excellent all-round properties.

There is currently stock of both EcoBlade (1.6 and 2.0mm) and EcoBlade PRO (in 2.4, 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0mm).
